Delores Marie Kessler-Schumacher peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on Monday, October 3, 2022, at the Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen SD. Surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Ipswich, SD, with Father Tim Cone officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the church with a 7 p.m. liturgical wake service. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery following Mass. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be held at the church parish hall following the burial.

Delores was born December 15, 1926, Aberdeen, South Dakota to Peter and Magdalena (Usselman) Kessler into a family with three sisters and four brothers: Harold, Elvina, Dorothy, Anthony (Tony), Clarence, Melvin, and Mary Ann. She was employed at Northwestern Bell in Aberdeen, SD.

In 1947, Delores was united in marriage to Walter Leonard Schumacher. They made their home on a family farm in Ipswich, SD where she raised four children: Richard, Irene, Darlene and Gloria.

Delores worked hard on the farm growing a beautiful garden for her family. She embraced family and friends with unconditional love, honor, and respect throughout her life. Delores was a selfless and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and advocate. You would never hear a negative word from her, always being humble, kind, and spiritual.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, volunteered with Lady Foresters, and President of Altar Society. Delores was a Cook at the Holy Cross Catholic School for many years baking her favorite cinnamon rolls.

Delores was best known for her sayings such as “Fat and Sassy as Ever”, “Whatever”, and “I am still kicking”.

Delores is survived by her three children: Richard (Janice) Schumacher Ipswich, SD; Darlene (Ben) Gonzales Denver, CO; Gloria Cornyn (Mark) Denver, CO; one sister Mary Ann (Ron) Kight Mitchell, SD; one brother Melvin (Virginia) Kessler Leola, SD; eight grandchildren: Tami Schumacher; April Feldman (Rich Lacher); Kellee (Ross) Pederson; Robin (Marc) Bitz ; Jason (Linda) March; Sarah (Shane) Stroub; Tania (Matthew) Sayler;nine great-grandchildren.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband: Walter Schumacher; daughter Irene (Charles) March; granddaughter Angela Lee March, and her siblings: Harold (Mildred) Kessler, Elvina (Roy) Crawford, Dorothy (Matt) Fettig, Anthony (Tony) (Helen)Kessler, and Clarence Kessler.
