Marvin Geffre Obituary

The Mass of Christian burial for Marvin G. Geffre, 75, of Leola, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leola, with Fr. Randy Phillips, Celebrant. A Liturgical Wake will be held at the church Tuesday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m. with public visitation starting at 5:00 p.m. and continuing one hour prior to Wednesday's church service.

Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military rights.

Marvin George Geffre was born February 5, 1933 to George Rochus and Lucille Mary (Lapka) Geffre on a farm northeast of Leola. Marvin attended country school and Leola High School through the 10th grade. He then farmed with his father until marrying Viola Martha Rieger on September 20, 1953 at Leola and leaving for the Army on September 22, 1953. Marvin was stationed at Colorado Springs and was discharged on September 21, 1955. Marvin and Viola returned to Leola and continued to farm until poor health caused him to retire in 2003. Marvin entered Golden LivingCenter of Ipswich in April 2004 and was a resident until his death.

He had been a lifetime member of the Leola Legion. He enjoyed going to sale barns and attending church.

Marvin died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Golden Living Center of Ipswich after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Steve) Riffle of Cove City, NC, Lee Geffre, Bruce (Ronda) Geffre, Glen Geffre, Dean (Robin) Geffre, all of Leola and Dale (Wendy) Geffre of Frederick, SD; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Natasha, Brandon, Paul, Aaron, Nicole, Tanya, Katelyn, Bryson, and Keely; one step-grandson Kenny and one great-grandson Hunter; one brother Ronald J. Geffre of Leola, brother-in-law Alvin Rieger of Elkmount, AL, sisters-in-law Alice (Milton) Ford of Aberdeen, SD, Ida (Orville) Ford of Watertown, SD and Nora (Walter) Rieger of Faulkton, SD.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Viola on June 18, 1999, his parents George Geffre on June 15, 1991 and Lucille Geffre on July 6, 2003.
