Peggy Jean Jung

The funeral service of Peggy J. Jung will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hosmer, SD with Pastor Janet Sandmeier officiating the service. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer, SD following the funeral service.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial service at the church hall.

Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2023, from 5 – 7:00 PM at Schriver Funeral Home, 720 N. 6th Street, Ipswich SD with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Peggy Jean Jung was born November 26, 1938, to Fred and Clara (Guthmiller) Schumacher on the farm southeast of Hosmer, SD.  She grew up there and attended eight years of rural school before attending high school in Hosmer, graduating in 1956.  After graduation, she lived in Aberdeen, SD for a short period of time where she worked for a dry cleaner.

On December 29, 1957, Peggy was united in marriage to LeRoy Jung.  She joined him in Germany where he was stationed.  Following his discharge in 1959, they returned to his family farm 9 miles east of Hosmer, SD where they raised 3 boys:  Glenn, Joe, and Louie.

Peggy was a homemaker and helped on the farm for many years.  She worked for the Bowdle Nursing Home and Hosmer Nursing Home for more than 20 years as a very caring caregiver.

Due to declining health in 2019, Peggy became a resident of the Avera Health Care Center in Eureka, SD until the time of her death on Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Peggy is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, LeRoy, Sons: Glenn (Theresa) Jung of Roscoe, SD; Joe (Michelle) Jung of Leola, SD and Louie (Kati) Jung of Roscoe, SD; 5 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild; 10 great-grandchildren with another on the way in March of 2024; sister, Verdella Gross and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother in-law Inez and Jim Kramer, and brother-in law, Marvin Gross.
