Reuben was born May 8, 1929 to Fred and Katie (Schick) Beck on a farm near Hosmer, SD. The family later moved to a farm near Java, SD where Reuben attended country school. While in his grade school years the family purchased a farm near Roscoe. Reuben continued his education at rural schools and eventually attended Roscoe High School.

Reuben enjoyed family gatherings, camping with family and friends, Hub City Sams gatherings, hunting, fishing, traveling and fifteen years of wintering in Arizona. His keen sense of humor and funny one-liners will be remembered by many.

Reuben was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He had also served on the Roscoe City Council, Volunteer Fire Department and was a promoter of Roscoe Senior Housing where he currently served as the President of the Board.
