Robert Miller Obituary

The funeral service for Robert E. Miller, 77, of Mansfield, is 2:00 p.m. Monday at UCC Church, SD Highway 45 in Ipswich. Pastor Enno Limvere will lead the service.

Burial will take place in the Scatterwood Cemetery in a private family ceremony.

Robert was born May 16, 1931 at Mansfield, SD to Freelan and Georgia (Frazier) Miller. He was raised on the family farm and attended country schools. He graduated from Cresbard High School.

After his schooling he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from service in June of 1958.

Robert returned to the work he loved, farming with his family, in the Scatterwood Lake area.

He married Vera Kaseman on April 2, 1961 in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home on a farm at Scatterwood Lake. Together, they farmed until his ill health forced his semi-retirement several years ago.

Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved his grandchildren and the time he spent with them. They will always remember his bets of the "biggest malted milk shake." He was active in his community as well by serving on the Union Township Board and the Cresbard School Board. He was a past ember of the Yelduz Shrine Chanters and the Blue Lodge Masons.

Robert died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Golden Living Center of Redfield.

Robert is survived by his wife Vera, three children and six grandchildren; Susan (Jon) Watson, David and Sarah; Doug (Wendy) Miller, Ashley and Emily; Debra (Michael) Bickel, Jason and Brittany; one sister, Pat Cisin.

His parents and one sister, Betty Swanhorst, preceded him in death.
